Core Meaning
Death is not the end—it is the sacred threshold between forms. As card XIII of the Major Arcana, Death signifies deep, necessary transformation. It marks the dissolution of what no longer serves, creating space for rebirth. This card is the soul’s call to release attachments, shed illusions, and embrace the unknown. Though it may arrive with grief, fear, or letting go, it is ultimately a card of power, clarity, and spiritual liberation.
Upright Meaning
Something is ending. Let it. Death invites you to release what you’ve outgrown—habits, beliefs, relationships, roles—so a truer version of you can emerge. This is a time for courage, honesty, and trust in transformation. What you surrender now becomes the fertile soil for your rebirth.
Reversed Meaning
You may be resisting change, clinging to what no longer serves, or fearing the void that follows release. Reversed, Death reflects stagnation, fear of loss, or delayed transformation. Yet the invitation remains: surrender willingly or be reshaped by force. Trust that letting go leads to greater freedom.
